Workbox’s WordPress video plugin lets you show multiple thumbnails from YouTube or Vimeo videos on a single page, then plays the videos right on the same page. You can add as many videos as you like, and customize titles, descriptions, order and more.

Here’s the plugin:

Here’s our sample page (no formatting done): http://blog.workbox.com/test-video-plugin/

Here’s how it looks on UC Santa Cruz’s Grow A Farmer website (http://www.growafarmer.org/videos/):

Grow a farmer YouTube and Vimeo videos

You’ll notice that it shows both YouTube and Vimeo videos.

How it works:

1. To add a video to a page: -> WordPress Admin panel -> Videos -> Add New
2. Enter the URL of the video (for example: http://vimeo.com/30967973 or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IytNBm8WA1c), title and description.
3. The plugin analyzes your video to see if it’s a YouTube or a Vimeo file.
4. The plugin requests the video from YouTube or Vimeo via API.
5. YouTube returns data in XML format. Vimeo returns jSon encoded data.
6. The plugin parses the returned data to get the video file, the title, the tags and the thumbnail.
7. The thumbnails are automatically sized and the video is served in a Lightbox.

Easy!

Here’s what the admin interface looks like.

First, the video listing and sort order page interface:

To install the Workbox WordPress video plugin:

Download the plugin, put it into the Plugins directory on your server, then activate it in the Plugins page of the Admin panel. Then go to Options and select which page you want to put the video gallery in.

Love the gallery but the Lightbox does not appear. Clicking on the video link launches a full-size window that shows 1/4 of the total image. I am using WordPress 3.4.1 and all other video plugins are deactivated. Send help quick! Thanks.

This is so useful, the instructions are easy and great pictures. Thank you for sharing

I published 10 videos from Vimeo to a new page and the links and play buttons don’t work. I haven’t made the page visible yet-it’s called Our Work. I just upgraded to WordPress 3.4.2, in case that’s a problem. I run on an older Mac and I tried it with Firefox and Safari, same result.

Hi , your video gallery plugin is one of the few that can finally share the video title on facebook properly while using it in a video gallery mode. It worked fine on firefox, but the video doesn’t show up on a safari browser. Do you have any tips for making it work on safari.

    Thank-you

Rob, Thank you for your note and letting us know about this issue. We’ll look into it right away!

  6. Rob says:

Hi, I got it to play in Safari by using the original youtube player option in the player. Is there an option to order videos? Right now new videos added to the gallery list are at the bottom of the page instead of at the top.

    Clever work around!

I’ll ask the team to get an answer to your sorting question.

  8. How do you embed the shortcode in a post? I can seem to get the [workbox_video_YV_list] to work

  9. Claudia says:

Hi! Thank you for the plugin!
I’ve just a question, if I would create more than one gallery, how can I get the shortcodes for the single gallery?

    thank you!
    Claudia

  10. eweidner says:

At this time you can’t use a shortcode. However, if you’re looking at using it for posts, we’re adding that feature soon.
We’ll look into a shortcode feature, too.
Thank you for your feedback – we appreciate it!

  11. Cinnamon Harrington says:

I, am interested in placing a video not just in its gallery page but on other pages as well. When you talk about shortcodes being added – how soon might that be? Thank you!

  12. Claudia says:

    Hi eweidner!
Thanks for your reply. So, I will waiting for the new feature! ;)

I have another question, I need the editor role to manage the galleries but I didn’t find any option about it. I would like to create a new capability for the editor role, could you help me?

    Thank you!
    Claudia

  13. Carlos says:

    Hi!
Is there a way to resize the video with specific dimensions?

    Thank you!
    Carlos
